Our Day on Île-aux-Moines

We had another great day of being tourists in our own land...
This morning, we drove out to the very tip of the peninsula that leads into the gulf of Morbihan and boarded a boat in Port Navalo.

Our boat took us on a little tour of the gulf where we saw an island studded with megalithes before landing on the cross-shaped island of Île-aux-Moines.

We were deposited on the island where we immediately hit the hiking trails that took us around the island to the beach.

The beach was fairly deserted on a cool day in April but with the sun shining and the sand calling their names, the kids loved every minute of their beach time! We took a break for lunch where we hit a local creperie. We loved showing our American family the different crepes that are available both as main courses and as desserts and loved showing off Calvin's beautiful French to the waiter who was afraid that we needed English menus to get by.

We were thrilled to be under cover at the restaurant when a brief but hard rain shower rolled in and then thrilled again when the rest of the day proved to be beautiful and sunny. We let the kids play for another couple of hours on the beach before boarding the boat again for home.

There was definitely some confusion when the woman on the boat told us to be back at 4 o'clock for the return trip when I was quite sure our tickets were for a 1:30 departure. We just rolled with it though until we got back on the boat with her telling us that we should have been on before! It's those kind of things that I cannot communicate well enough to debate but are frustrating because I know that I was right and she was wrong... Oh well, c'est la vie!
