Happy 14th, Quincy!

Somehow or another, our oldest celebrated his 14th birthday today. Josh and I were a little freaked out by this as Josh was only 14 when we met each other! We will now have to look at every girl with increased scrutiny!

We had a big birthday party here this evening for Quincy with 7 of his friends, boys and girls. They had a great time playing baseball and basketball down at the local park and then coming back here for a big meal of homemade hamburgers, chips and salsa, and a traditional American double-layer cake with ice cream. I even "imported" a tub of Pillsbury frosting on our last trip home so this was authentically American. Now, if we could just find cake mix around here, things would be a lot easier. Because "Happy Birthday" is one of the first songs in English that French kids learn, Quincy's friends sang this to him before switching into the French version. They all seemed to have a great time.

This afternoon, before the party, Josh and I walked down to the old part of town to attend an art exposition.

Everyone here has real art hanging on their walls and we have begun to enjoy collecting a few pieces from various places that we have traveled. We are now looking for something that will really remind us of Brittany. We saw several things that we liked today but will have to give them some thought before making our purchase.
