With one long car ride and two trips to the beach this week, my car was looking pretty bad. I broke down and finally took it to the car wash. While standing outside the wash (you are not allowed to sit in your car during the wash) and waiting, I started thinking about how differently people seem to treat their cars here. Cars really seem to be just a mode of transportation and not a status symbol or something to take great pride in. At least 75% of the cars in France are gray and almost all are of the same basic style and design. I don't know of anyone who puts their car in a garage and people all seem to drive them until they literally fall apart. Everyone has dings and scratches and just doesn't care. If they get them from point A to point B, that is good enough - no matter how much money this person has. Because of this, car washes are few and far between and not all that impressive when you do find one.

Because our kids aren't going to school tomorrow and because the French Mother's Day is this Sunday, I received gifts today when the kids got home from school. The elementary school teachers have the kids make wonderful little mementos for their moms just like at "home".

We are leaving for our weekend in Dublin in the morning. As I was planning this trip and printing out everything that we needed to make our short trip a good one, it dawned on me just what a perfect place Ireland is to visit. They speak English there and they use the Euro as their currency! We don't have to exchange our money or change our language! Perfect!
