13th Century Castle

I continued the process this morning of selling off some electronics and saying good-bye to French friends. Because French people travel through most of the months of July and August, swarms of tourists have descended upon Vannes while swarms of Vannes-ites are leaving town to go elsewhere. This means, unfortunately, that the kids and I are having to say good-bye to friends long before we actually leave the country. It's not easy....
After lunch, while Tabitha and Calvin each went to the home of a friend, Max and I took our American guests out on the Presquile St Gildas du Rhuys to see the castle of Suscinio.

This castle is a beautiful restored 13th-15th century medieval castle overlooking the salt marshes of the area. We all enjoyed the audio guided tour (except Max who claims to have seen enough castles, he played Pokemon at every opportunity).

We then took off for our favorite ocean beach which is quite close to the castle. The temperature has dropped back down into the normal range of the high 70's but it certainly didn't keep people off the beach today.

We all spent our last evening together on the Vannes port, enjoying a French meal in an outdoor cafe. Adam, Natalie and Debbie will leave for London in the morning. We have certainly enjoyed their visit.

I can't believe Max has seen enough castles. He's only seen...how many? Now, on the other hand, who would ever get tired of Pokemon?
