We got Quincy and Tabitha started with the new school year today! Here in France, no one ever knows what class they will be in or who their home room teacher will be until that first day. Then, all of the kids gather with their parents out in the schoolyard while the homeroom teachers call out the names of the kids in their class. The kids then gather in line and walk into the building with their teacher where they begin their day. The school arranges this quite carefully with all of a certain grade to be done at a certain time but with a school as big as Quincy and Tabitha's (11 classrooms of 27-30 kids per grade for 4 grade levels), you can imagine that this all takes some time.... Of course, it is a time for all of the parents to catch up and it's followed by the first PTO meeting where they serve wine and recruit volunteers! So, Quincy and Taba had a successful morning, with good teacher assignments. They both have a couple of friends in their homerooms although Quincy does not have either of his close friends so he was a bit disappointed. School was out by 11:55 today as it's Wednesday and no one ever goes longer than a 1/2 day on Wednesdays! After hanging out at home this afternoon for a bit, the sun finally came out so we all headed down the street to the local stadium (stade) where apparently all kids hang out on nice days! Quincy had a group of at least 12 boys his age, most that he knew quite well. They all played basketball together and then launched into a long game of soccer. Very fun! Max and Calvin played with a couple of little boys while Taba played catch with the only other girl there. Tonight was paperwork for me (all those school forms that I at least know what they mean this year!) and homework for the kids!!! The fun has begun!!

Looks like Quincy is carrying the Notre Dame tradition into another school year. Have a good year, kids! Love, Grandma
