No Open Castles

This afternoon, the kids and I decided to hit the road and see a couple of castles. We headed first to Josselin where we had been in the spring. The last time we were there, we didn't tour the inside of the castle, only the grounds, so this time, we wanted to hit the interior. Well, we arrived only to discover that the castle was closed.

They appear to only have weekend hours in the off season. That was okay though because the town is also supposed to have a great doll museum and they have our favorite English book store. Closed and closed... We keep forgetting that this is the February school break in France. This is when everyone shuts down and goes skiing. The streets are deserted!! Anyway, no problem. We jumped back in the car and headed to Elven where we had seen signs for another castle in the past. This castle is gorgeous and looked quite promising when we pulled up to it.

However, we quickly discovered that this castle is not open to the public but is broken up into seasonal rental apartments and time shares. It is also used for wedding receptions. Beautiful! But, not quite what we had in mind for today. So, after driving more than 100 km to apparently just window shop, we headed home.
Since we have this time with no school before traveling back to the US on Sunday, we have decided to try to start easing into the time difference in an attempt to decrease our jet lag. We are starting to stay up later and sleep in later each day. Think it will work?
