Rochefort-en-Terre

We had to get out of the house and just not think about things for awhile... So, after lunch, we drove the 30 km east to a little artist's village by the name of Rochefort-en-Terre. It is a beautiful little town built on the hilly banks of a river with most of it's buildings dating from the 12th and 15th centuries. Most of the many artist and antique shops were closed for the season but we enjoyed walking the narrow, quiet streets and peeking in the windows. We also enjoyed some fresh, hot beignets from a local pastry shop. Nice break...

Couple of other side notes... While helping Quincy follow his packing list for his skiing trip, we both had to laugh out loud when we saw the one item listed. "2 cloth napkins"!! Most French people use cloth napkins at every meal, I think more as a don't waste money and resources on paper thing than as a fancy thing. Of course, we had to scramble to come up with two for Quincy to take!
Several people have asked me how Calvin is holding up this year as a 5th grader, having skipped 4th grade. He is doing great, no problems at all. In fact, he just brought home his results from a big national standardized test that they all took for French and Math. The teacher told us that to receive a 50% is considered very good and right on par with the other 5th graders across the nation. Well, Calvin scored a 74% in French and an 83% in Math! Way to go, Cal!
