After the Honeymoon...
We were warned when we began our instruction in being host parents to an exchange student, that the honeymoon period of exciting, new and different, would begin to fade and some annoyances would begin to crop up. I'm afraid that we are reaching that stage, just a bit. Nothing bad, just little things that we all seem to be noticing and feeling, both from our side and I'm sure from Leo's as well! Quincy is annoyed that Leo eats all the food in sight and leaves their bathroom more messy than it should be. Tabitha is annoyed that Leo is shirtless 99% of the time in the house. Calvin is annoyed that Leo really doesn't try to interact with him at all despite Calvin's efforts. Max is not ever really annoyed by anyone but he does feel like Leo spends WAY TOO MUCH time on his computer. I am annoyed tonight because for the second meal in a row, Leo has covered his food in ketchup! A delicious spaghetti carbonara smothered in KETCHUP??! A beautiful meal of French raclette smothered in KETCHUP???! I understand that he is trying to eat many new and different things that he might not always like but we cannot let this go on. It's rude and frankly disgusting. We would never let our kids do this, they would eat it whether they like it or not! We also no longer have the problem of Leo studying too much and overachieving! Now, he is just like my other kids (except Taba) and I have to tell him to do his homework and then when he says that he doesn't have any, I have to remind him that he is still carrying an "F" in Religion and English and only a B- in some other classes so he should be spending time studying and reviewing each night.... Leo has also stopped trying to a be a part of things. He now just plays computer games all of the time and is never interested in doing what we are doing and doesn't even pretend to try. Sigh.... I guess it's time for a long chat.

And I agree with you about the ketchup thing. I would never smother your French raclette in ketchup...
