Apartment Hunting

No, not for us! We are not moving again (at least for another 2 1/2 years - better keep using pencil in your address book for us). Anyway, it turns out that my very good friend, Sabine, has been recruited to be the relocation assistant for this Indiana family that will soon be moving to France. So, she and I have been having a good ole' time working together to find a good place for Dave and his family to live. Sabine can figure out all of the logistics while I can give my American perspective. Today, we spent the afternoon looking at a couple of places and then running Dave through the best one on his way to the airport to fly back home. I think we found a very workable solution for them. It has been even more difficult for them to find a suitable home than for us because they will only be here for 9 months so they need something to be furnished and well-equipped. We live in a very touristy area which means that there are plenty of short-term leases of furnished places but it also means that those places are already booked for several years out! Anyway, Dave was a little freaked out by the petite size of everything around here but learned quickly to put things into perspective. The only draw back to the apartment we found today was that it only has a washing machine, not a dryer. The owner thought that I was nuts to suggest that that might be a drawback - she said that they have a beautiful terrace and a rack on which to dry things, but.... I'm not so sure that Dave's wife will feel the same! Good luck, Susie! This morning, Coco and I went for a long (wet- yes, it's rainy again) walk along the port before heading to the vet for her first check-up. She did just fine and checks out as healthy but was not too happy to get that rabies shot! Poor thing, she had no idea what hit her! I was also supposed to meet this woman that I run with for an hour or two of French conversation today.... She only speaks French, no English, so we have decided that I need to spend time with her forcing myself to speak French. I was quite nervous about how we would fill our time and the conversation so it was met with relief that she forgot that today was the day and was not available when I showed up! Whew!! We have really had a rainy week but the bright flowers blooming everywhere still manage to perk us up. Does anyone know what these little yellow flowers are that grow on a spiky bush? They are everywhere!!!
