Can't beat it! Today, was a wonderfully relaxing day with my buddies. We got off to a bit of a rushed start however, as Calvin suddenly remembered that he and Max don't have school tomorrow morning (due to a Diocesan meeting for the teachers) so if Max was going to bring candy to his classmates to celebrate his birthday, he needed to do it today! That set off a bit of panic for Max as we didn't have any "bon-bons" in the house and this candy thing is a must if you are in 1st grade and having a birthday! I know of only one store that is open before 9 o'clock so we rushed out the door and managed to make a candy run before school. I then met my running group this morning for a run over some very muddy paths but finally, finally, it was not actually raining. My fellow runners were tough on me today as they would not allow me to speak English at all and actually had me run with a woman who does not speak any English. So, we spoke French (you all know me well enough to know that I can't just keep quiet). It was good. I was actually quite amazed at how much we could communicate. My verb tenses are certainly not always correct but she could definitely understand what I was saying. Exercising my brain and body at the same time is not easy however!!! After coming home for a shower and some chores, I then went to the beautiful port town of Auray with my two good friends, Sabine and Valerie. We had a wonderful time! We walked the cobblestone streets, looking in shops and galleries, took some brief tours of the three 17th century churches that are in town, learned all about St. Goustan, St. Gildas and St. Barbe (all of whom I had never heard of before), and then enjoyed crepes and cidre at an outdoor cafe! Magnifique!!! Tonight, we are going to take Max out to eat to celebrate his birthday with us before his actual birthday and party tomorrow. Very exciting! My friend, Valerie actually grew up in a half-timbered house just like the one in the 4th picture down. Can you imagine?
