Feeling Blessed

This is not a term that I use regularly but that is really the only way to describe how I feel today... I spent the morning visiting Wushuang, the burned Chinese girl that I have been working with for months. Wushuang had yet another surgery yesterday at Shriner's Hospital in Cincinnati. This surgery was to modify some scars on her face that have been preventing her eyes and mouth from opening as they should. She had some skin grafts and some "spacers" put in her face to allow more movement. This little girl just amazes me every time I see her. She is always upbeat, always grateful for every bit of help and attention and never dwells on her problems. She had surgery late yesterday afternoon but was already out of bed, laughing, teasing and fixing her hair when I saw her this morning. Shriners Hospital itself is just incredible!! It is only a 30 bed hospital but with all state of the art equipment, fantastic staff and a beautiful facility.

It is mind-boggling to think of all the good that they do each and every day for these incredible kids. I saw at least 8 other burned kids just happily playing and being taken care of by kind people despite their severe and debilitating injuries.

Then, to top off the day, we are getting regular news updates about the amazing rescue of the Chilean miners. Wow! What a story and so incredible that they can finally go home to their families after 69 days of fear and unimaginable circumstances!
We finally got some rain today!! We had a nice steady rain for more than an hour! It was wonderful! Except for Tabitha who was huddled in the bus with her teammates, waiting for the lightning to stop so they could proceed with their soccer sectional tourney game.
