Discovering Rennes

We made the 113 km trip to the city of Rennes today to do a little exploring. Rennes has been a settlement since the Celtic Era. The Romans arrived in 51BC and made it the administrative center of the area. It suffered a big fire in 1720 and another fire in 1994 but many of the timber framed houses from the 15th century are still visible today. Amazing! We had a nice time just wandering the streets and parks as well as the tourism center which is housed in a 15C church. We had hoped to explore the Les Champs Libres which houses a museum about our region of Brittany, a science center, a library, and a planetarium but it was closed due to today being Armistice Day. Oh well, we'll have to go back another day. Here's some pictures from our day. I have to admit that we never saw an outdoor fuzeball table at a park before today! Quite fun!
