So, it's not a birthday party....

I learned/figured out a few new things today - mostly food-related as you all know how much I like to cook. I finally found some cream cheese in France, it's packaged more as finger food or something that a kid might snack on but is definitely cream cheese. Taba and I even used it today to make a carrot cake with cream cheese icing. Her English teacher asked her to bring one of these in as something very foreign to the French kids. We'll see how that goes over with her classmates tomorrow. I was also finally able to find powdered sugar! It is not poudre sucre as one might think... that is just slightly more finely ground granulated sugar. It is called icing sugar. Finally, I can make some icing look and taste like icing! I also discovered a store that sells only frozen foods! I was so excited to find this as the frozen food aisles even in the huge supermarkets are quite limited. I have been unable to find much beyond frozen green beans, potatoes of every variety and maybe some frozen carrots or spinach. Today, I found Picards which has just several aisles of freezers filled with everything that I have been looking for - frozen corn, asparagus, fish, cranberries, raspberries, rhubarb, etc. Very exciting! Max and I had a great time browsing it's aisles and picking up a few fun things. The kids did not have school today but after Max's soccer practice, he complained of another bad stomach ache... as this is the 3rd one in a week, I decided to take him to the doctor. The doctor was not concerned that it is anything serious so he gave us a mini-French lesson (he loves to quiz us on what we know) and then a prescription for some medicine to try. I love the pharmacies in France!! Everything is pre-packaged in the general quantities required to help you with your current problem (no pill counting or the subsequent long lines) and the pharmacists are able to just quickly dispense them and get you on your way. Makes a lot of sense to me! Calvin made a little language barrier mistake as he very excitedly came home the other day and told us he was invited to his buddy's birthday party. So, we got a little gift, wrapped it up and took him to Thomas' house at the designated time. Turns out that Calvin was invited to come over and play at that time but that the birthday party isn't for 2 more weeks! Calvin wisely decided not to snatch the gift back from Thomas but to just let him enjoy it.
