Yesterday, I had 5 of my French friends over for coffee and a long walk since the weather has been absolutely fantastic! It was the first time that several of them had been to our house and as we were talking about various life adjustments that we have made to the French way of life, the subject of laundry came up. I told them that I was not sure how to use all the options on my washer and dryer as all of the instructions are in French or German so they wanted to help me out.... As soon as they walked into my laundry room, they were awestruck at how big my washer and dryer are!! They couldn't believe it and went on and on about how lucky I am.... It was very funny as I have been constantly frustrated at how small the machines are and how long it takes me to get all of our laundry done! It's all about perspective, isn't it? They have also all decided to really help me with my French so they are saying many of their sentences in both French and English so that I can hear both. Josh and I tried to watch Scrubs and Sex in the City on French cable last night with the subtitles in French - whew! That is not an easy (or all that interesting) task when you only pick up about 1/4 of the conversation! Everyone bilingual that we know says that it is a great way to learn a foreign language though.... Today was another gorgeous fall day with temperatures ranging from about 45 to 55 and with blue sky and sunshine all day. The little guys had school this morning followed by Tabitha's horse back riding class, Calvin's basketball game, Quincy's basketball game and Max's soccer game. Fortunately, Max and Quincy played at the same time at the same high school so I just went back and forth between both. Everyone lost but they all played well and had a good time. When we came home, I made a homemade apple pie (yum!) and took another long run while the kids played and Josh fixed our electronics!!! Hurray! It definitely has it's pluses to be married to an engineer!!! He realized that he could just replace the power source on the computer I blew up a few weeks ago so he ordered one, did that and it works (for only about $40)! The kids can now get off of my computer!! He also replaced the power source for our Xbox 360 so that it could run on the French voltage so the kids are now able to play their video games!! It has been a nice couple of months without all of that stuff and the kids have been amazingly patient but.... it's only fair that they can sometimes do the things that they want to do! He also fixed my cell phone which has not worked since Taba dropped it while at Max's soccer practice one day. Isn't Josh great?!!!
