Today was a busy day of basketball tournaments, horseback riding lessons, friend's birthday parties and school. In between a few of those events, I was able to run over to this strip mall area to do some errands. When I arrived, I couldn't believe it, the whole area was empty! No cars, no people and nothing opened. It then dawned on me that it was lunch time.... of course, everything was closed. You would think that I would be used to that by now! When I had a chance to go back a couple of hours later,it was the complete opposite - street full of traffic, people waiting for parking spaces and everything opened. The thing that really struck me though was the amount of people on foot, walking to and from different stores. I didn't have my camera with me so you will have to imagine this.... This is a very busy 2 lane road... there are modern, large, large stores up and down the whole strip which is at least 3 km long, and every store has a large parking lot in front - very much like every strip mall row you have ever seen in the US. Anyway, then there are people walking! They seem to park their car in front of one shop and walk to the next ones that they might need. Walking paths along the road help to cater to this but they are still crossing busy parking lots and streets. Now.... would we ever do something like that? How many of you walk to the Walgreens that is across the parking lot from the Target you were just in? It's so funny to me how different our mentality is. We are so used to driving everywhere - many times when it is not necessary at all!
I made a big pot of shrimp creole tonight. We put in a New Orleans Jazz CD, ate some shrimp creole and pretended we were in the French Quarter! When Josh brought home the bag of fresh shrimp, I asked the kids to help me peel it for the recipe. Tabitha was the only one that could stick it out. My tough boys were too "grossed out" by the head on the shrimp....
Coco lounges on any soft surface that happens to appear on the floor. She so misses that good ole US wall to wall carpeting!
