Wow! We discovered an absolutely amazing place today!! We took a 2 hour boat ride out to Belle Isle en Mer (Beautiful Island on the Sea)this morning. The boat dropped us off at Le Palais, the island's main port at about 10:45 and picked us up this afternoon at 5:30. We had a fantastic time exploring one of the most gorgeous places that I have ever seen! We first explored the island's citadel which was built in the 16th century. We then began hiking around the perimeter of the island. The scenery was just fantastic!! The island is about 20 km long so we didn't even scratch the surface of hiking but we did hike for hours before taking the road back to the village for lunch at a local creperie, and then hitting the trails again. We also found many World War II bunkers and trenches on one outcropping of land for the kids to explore. There were very few cars, the temperature was in the low 80's and the sky was a beautiful blue all day long. We had such a great time.
I forgot to tell you that yesterday, Josh got to attend the awards ceremony for the sailing race that he was in on Saturday. His team received 5 place out of 14 boats in their division. Not bad! Josh also found out that he now has an official sailing license and he received an official crew shirt for his team. Pretty fun!
