To quote Julia Child's husband in her book My Life in France.... "It's easy to get the feeling that you know the language just because when you order a beer they don't bring you oysters."
I have just realized what an appropriate quote this is for my life right now.... Today was a day full of errands.... I had a post office run to mail a package, some grocery shopping to do, some specialty food shopping to do, and the task of taking Coco to the groomers for her bimonthly haircut. After I successfully navigated all of these tasks without too much difficulty, I was feeling pretty proud of myself. When it was time to pick up Coco from the groomers however, I began to realize that I really wasn't "speaking" French, I have just learned how to quite successfully read people's body language, gestures, and the situation in order to determine in turn, which body language and gestures I need to use in my response! Oh well, at least I am no longer afraid to tackle new tasks. I always know that I will be able to manage whatever I need done, it might just be a bit difficult and awkward for a minute or two.
This afternoon, I went for a long, long walk along the port with my friend, Sabine. We all finished up our day with a big meal of plain white fish smothered in ratatouille and served with couscous. Quincy's favorite! Delicious!
