Our French Kids

I'm going to include a video on this blog. It's not the greatest visually, but you can hear Max and Calvin playing a Pokemon card game before school this morning. You can hear them switch back and forth between French and English when they speak to each other. Often, they choose French over English now when they play together. It's absolutely amazing! 10 months here, look how far we have come!
After school today, I took Tabitha with me to the pet store so that she could speak to the groomers there and make an appointment for Coco to get her next "haircut". Taba was perfect! I don't even think that the clerk knew that she spoke anything except French. It was very fun to watch!
Today, I spent the day with my two wonderful friends, Valerie and Sabine. We spent the day at Valerie's house where we did some more cooking. Valerie has been to Morocco several times so today we made tanjine, with chicken, coconut, pineapple, mushrooms, etc. Absolutely delicious! We also made feta stuffed tomatoes and a strawberry tart. We had a wonderful time. I thought it was very funny that Valerie's 12 year old boy opened our bottle of wine for us while he was home from school for lunch. It seemed to be very natural for him!
Tonight, Josh and I went for drinks at a Hill-Rom co-worker's house. It was the first time that I met some of Josh's co-workers. We really had a very nice time and I met some very nice people- speaking in French and English. It was so different from an American party even though it was still a "stand around kind of thing"... When we entered the apartment, all conversation stopped and everyone sort of gravitated apart to stand in a circle around the room so that we could go from person to person and issue the required handshake or cheek kiss to each. This happened every time someone arrived but also every time someone left! Very interesting to see! There was also plenty of food set out on platters but it was served by the host and hostess circulating around the room to each person. A plate is never given to each person, so you just take from the platter what you can hold and eat without a plate or napkin! Certainly cuts down on portion sizes!!! Your wine glass is never allowed to empty, however!
